to the west and go to northern new jersey and the new york city area notice the snow is gradually ending from the west to the east. central and eastern connecticut, you still have plenty of snow. it's not the case in eastern connecticut, rhode island, and the boston area and all of coastal maine, they're seeing occasional bouts of heavy snow. some of these bands are still pretty strong and that's going to continue to be the case for much of the morning. in fact, where you see the blue that's an additional 3 to 6 inches of snow could fall before the end of the day and that certainly does seem like that could be reasonable. >> how about the danger of flooding, especially in areas hit hardest by superstorm sandy, david? >> that's a good question. i know as far south as atlantic city during high tide we saw moderate coastal flooding and wash in that area. the winds now not only for the jersey shore and long island connecticut, now have it going offshore. the coastal flood warnings are confined along the massachusetts and maine shoreline. and, again, that should graduall

city we're now told the latest totals could be in the 14 inch range, boston is clearly the bulls eye of this northeast storm, but so many areas are going to feel it all around that and that city could get as much as three feet, we're being told right now. if you're planning to travel by air in the area on the map, you can pretty much forget it, folks. nearly 3800 flights have been canceled on the east coast, and the mayor of boston deploying work crews out in force, and virtually planning to shut the city down. they don't want anybody out on the roads. >> we have a 34,000 tons of salt over 600 pieces of equipment ready to be deployed throughout the storm. again, this is a storm of major proportion. stay off the roads. stay home. let the public works crews do their job the next 48 to 72 hours. >> so you hear that, and a live report coming up later in the hour from our fox extreme weather center which will give you the newest information and we will have an update coming in soon on the storm's path. and this is the other huge story right now, the desperate search for a suspected killer

across long island, new york city, coastal connecticut, not going to cause issues on the roads, dusting on the roads about a half-inch. new york city you can see it about a half inch. today is a good day for travel but new england is frigid. 2 in burlington and very cold in maine and new hampshire. the rest of the northeast is starting to warm up a little bit. above freezing today. and d.c. you could sneak up to 47 much warmer than you've been lately and a warming trend in the middle of the country. still cold in chicago but we're heading near 30 in chicago but look to your south, what a beautiful day. kansas city, 51. still very warm from denver to dallas and much of the west. that will continue as we go throughout this week, washington d.c., looks like we hold on to this war, 35 to 50 all the way through a sunny saturday, good things ahead in this morning's capitol. you're watching "morning joe" brewed by starbucks. visiting the resort city of acalpulco. elizabeth is in l.a. what do we know about what happened, first of all? then we'll get the reaction from the mayor. >> hi, suzanne. a horrifying attack, as you described it, what we know at this point, according to local media reports, six spanish women raped inside a condo staying near the beach resort and seven men tied up with cell phone cables. now, as you mentioned, the mayor just reacted, saying that this is definitely horrifying, condemned the attack, but said it's something that could happen anywhere in the world. we also know that the spanish ambassador is in contact with the victims. at this hour they're not specifying exactly where they are but they have told us they have received medical attention and taking care of them, as we speak. but certainly horrifying details, these tourists reportedly staying at a condo, no motive why the attack. of course the hunt, the manhunt, on for the gang of armed masked men. >> a loot of pressure on the mayor to respond. clearly it's a popular place. a lot of us go vacation, a lot of people feel safe th

ethan is at home, celebrating his sixth bir birthday and the city is working on a massive birthday celebration. victor blackwell is in midland city, alabama. we're getting a clearer picture of how far dykes went to keep authorities out of that bunker. >> reporter: that's right and we're seeing there was meticulous preparation on both sides, dykes rigged his bunker but the fbi hostage rescue team actually built a replica of the bunker we're told by sources and rehearsed the day and two days before they went in. four feet below this spot is the bunker where jimmie lee dykes held 5-year-old ethan hostage for a week. this is the pipe the fbi said dykes told agents to communicate and we know he made that request. day after the raid bomb technicians found an explosive inside that pipe and second explosive inside the bunker. jimmy davis jr. is a neighbor, he saw the setup in its early stages. >> it was covered up with two sheets of plywood nailed together with hinges and stuff as a door to open to it. >> reporter: authorities say dykes reinforced the bunker to keep them out but they were
